ENGLISH TRANSLATION

We are sorry to inform all the candidates that the Second Arthur Nikisch Competition has been postponed due to Corona Virus related issues.

Attached as a .jpg you can see the original letter of our partner “Pleven Philharmonic”, and below its English translation.

We do believe that, given the situation, we will be able to run the competition in Spring 2022.

No changes to the list of admitted candidates will occur.

At the beginning of August 2021, Bulgaria has entered the 4th COVID wave. The number of cases (about 40-50 at the end of July) has grown to 800 on August 11th.

According to the Health Ministry, in the upcoming days, Bulgaria would become an Orange zone and most of the restrictions will be introduced again. Furthermore, local authorities would be able to act by adding extra requirements based on the situation.

Even the lighter scenario would mean that indoor gatherings of more than 30-40 people would not be possible. Therefore, being able to run a contest with such a large number of participants, big orchestra, technicians, etc., would become highly unlikely.

For many months last year, all concert halls were closed for rehearsals, concerts and shows and thanks to our experience we know how easy it is to get into such a situation. For this reason, the management of the Pleven Philharmonic suggests that the Nikisch Competition is postponed to spring 2022 or alternatively, to be held online.
